Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Office Depot, Inc.
Roland C. Smith was named Chairman and CEO of Office Depot, Inc. in November 2013. An experienced senior executive, having served as President and Chief Executive Officer of both public and private companies and on numerous boards, Smith comes to Office Depot, Inc. with a strong track record in increasing operating profit, managing complex integrations, directing corporate turnarounds and transforming companies for future success. Prior to joining Office Depot, Inc., Smith most recently was the Chief Executive Officer and President of Delhaize America, LLC. Previously, Smith was President and CEO of The Wendy’s Company; President and CEO of Wendy's/Arby's Group, Inc.; and CEO of Wendy's International, Inc. Smith also served as Chief Executive Officer of Triarc Companies, Inc.; Chief Executive Officer of Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc.; President and Chief Executive Officer of American Golf Corporation and National Golf Properties; President and Chief Executive Officer of AMF Bowling Worldwide, Inc.; and President and Chief Executive Officer of Arby's Inc., d/b/a Triarc Restaurant Group. He has held senior management positions at KFC International, Pepsi Cola International, Schering-Plough and Procter & Gamble. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, Smith served in the U.S. Army for seven years in the Transportation and Aviation Corps as platoon leader, executive officer, deputy director of Army programs, aide-de-camp, aviation maintenance officer and pilot. Smith is Chairman of the Board of Directors for Carmike Cinemas, Inc., where he is also Chairman of the Compensation and Nominating Committee. He is a national trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and a member of the World Presidents' Organization International.
Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer
Michael Allison was named Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer for Office Depot, Inc. in December 2013. In this role, Allison is responsible for all global Human Resources functions, including Compensation and Benefits, Talent Management, Associate Relations, Organizational Development & Training, and Diversity & Inclusion. Additionally, the Communications function reports to him. Previously, Allison served as Executive Vice President, Human Resources for Office Depot. He joined Office Depot in 2006 as Vice President, Human Resources. Prior to Office Depot, Allison served as Executive Vice President of Human Resources for Victoria’s Secret Direct. Before joining Victoria’s Secret, he was Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Bank One and Senior Vice President and Director of Human Resources for National City Bank, both in Dayton, Ohio. Allison began his career as a practicing attorney specializing in Labor and Employment Law. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he graduated in 1979 from John Carroll University and received his law degree in 1982 from The Ohio State University College of Law.
Executive Vice President, Supply Chain
Tim Beauchamp leads Supply Chain at Office Depot, Inc. and is responsible for driving continuous improvement and process standardization across the company’s procurement and supply chain functions. With more than 30 years of experience in operations, warehousing, transportation, facilities management, materials handling, inventory management and purchasing, Tim is a transformational leader who has successfully managed more than 300 acquisitions by integrating operations, enhancing efficiency and establishing shared cultures. Previously, Beauchamp served as Chief Logistics Officer at US Food Service, where he led logistics, warehousing, delivery and purchasing for the second largest food distributor in the United States. Prior to joining US Foods, Beauchamp spent more than 15 years in the office products industry where he held a number of leadership roles in operations and logistics at Corporate Express and Staples. During that time, Beauchamp led the integration of Corporate Express and Staples in North America while providing international supply chain leadership. Beauchamp earned his Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Logistics from Michigan State University.
Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer
Steve Calkins was named Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for Office Depot, Inc. in August 2016. In this role, Calkins is responsible for managing worldwide legal, regulatory, compliance and government affairs matters for the company. After several years in private practice, Calkins joined Office Depot’s legal team in 2003, serving in various capacities including as Vice President, Deputy General Counsel. In 2011, Calkins was appointed Senior Vice President, North American Business Solutions, managing Office Depot's contract sales organization. Following the merger with OfficeMax, in 2013, he was named Executive Vice President, Contract Sales. As part of his operational duties, Calkins was also responsible for Office Depot's Grand & Toy business in Canada, as well as Print & Services and Customer Service across North American selling channels. During his time at Office Depot, Calkins has played a significant role in a number of dealings, including mergers and acquisitions from both a legal and business perspective. Calkins' operational experience, including his work as head of Office Depot’s contract business for more than five years, enabled him to return to the legal department as a well-rounded leader with broad business perspective.
Executive Vice President and Global Chief Information Officer
Todd Hale is Executive Vice President and Global Chief Information Officer for Office Depot, Inc. In this role, Hale is responsible for defining the Company’s IT architecture, managing and overseeing IT projects and portfolio decisions, planning and developing applications supporting business operations, and ensuring the security of IT systems and processes. Previously, Hale served as Senior Vice President, North American Chief Information Officer for Office Depot. During Hale’s time with Office Depot, he has led a number of transformational initiatives including the deployment of Global Merchandising, Supply Chain and e-Commerce solutions. Hale joined Office Depot in 2004 where he held several positions of increasing responsibility such as Director, IT Supply Chain Systems; Senior Director, Merchandising, Marketing & Inventory Management Systems; and Vice President, North American Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Applications Development. Prior to joining Office Depot, Hale held various IT leadership positions with the Eckerd Corporation. He began his career in retail consulting for Procter & Gamble and Walmart. Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Stephen E. Hare was named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Office Depot, Inc. in December 2013. In this role, Hare is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the Company, including Financial Planning, Forecasting, Reporting, and Accounting and Control; and managing the Internal Audit and Risk Management functions, Information Technology and the Integration Office. Hare comes to Office Depot, Inc. from The Wendy’s Company where he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Hare also was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Wendy’s/Arby’s Group, Inc. Previously, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc., Cadmus, AMF Bowling Worldwide, and James River Corp. Hare brings to the Company strong operating skills as well as considerable integration experience – having worked on a number of significant business transformations. Importantly, throughout his career, Hare has demonstrated the ability to successfully balance financial discipline with the need for sustained growth. Hare serves on the Board of Directors of Hanger, Inc. He graduated with a BBA from the University of Notre Dame and earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer
Juliet Johansson was named Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for Office Depot, Inc. in March 2014. Johansson is responsible for driving the Company’s strategy and leading efforts to develop and prioritize key business initiatives. Prior to joining Office Depot, Johansson held senior strategic advisory leadership roles with The Blackstone Group and McKinsey & Company, where she advised C-level executives in retail, consumer products, fast food and high technology sectors as Associate Principal and co-leader of the Sales and Marketing Practice. She also spent five years at Ryder System in senior roles responsible for strategy, national sales and marketing. Most recently, Johansson served as Senior Vice President, Global Commercial Business for dental implant manufacturer Biomet 3i. Johansson earned a B.A. in Economics from Duke University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
Executive Vice President, Business Development
Rob Koch was named Executive Vice President of Business Development for Office Depot, Inc. in August 2016. In this role, Koch is responsible for identifying and commercializing new business opportunities, rolling out Office Depot’s store of the future and expanding adjacency opportunities. Previously, Koch served as Senior Vice President of Real Estate as well as Senior Vice President of Merchandising for Office Depot. In his 22 years with Office Depot, Koch has held various key leadership positions in both finance and operations, including Vice President of North American Finance and Vice President of Financial Planning and Corporate Development. Notable areas of focus have included the administration of the annual operating and strategic planning processes, the development and execution of the North American Real Estate plan and various targeted cost and price optimization initiatives. Koch joined Office Depot in 1994 from Blockbuster Entertainment where he held various positions in the corporate finance division.
Executive Vice President, Merchandising
Ronald Lalla was named Executive Vice President of Merchandising for Office Depot, Inc. in December 2013. In this role, Lalla is responsible for defining the overall Merchandising category and assortment strategy, and strengthening market position and brand recognition through innovative product development and strategic vendor relationships. Previously, Lalla served as Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer for OfficeMax. Lalla brings extensive retail merchandising and business-to-business experience to this position. Prior to OfficeMax, Lalla held positions as Chief Merchandising Officer and Chief Technology Officer for Katz Group. Before joining Katz Group, he served as Executive Vice President, Global Merchandising at Corporate Express, where he was integral in implementing a global sourcing strategy and best-in-class programs for category and vendor management. Lalla previously spent more than 10 years at Kmart Corporation, where he held several leadership positions of increasing responsibility in merchandising, store operations and finance, including Director of Finance, International Operations and Senior Vice President, Global Operations. In addition to his professional experience, Lalla is a past board member of Wellspring in Canada, a network of community-based centers that offer support, coping skills and education to cancer patients and their families. Lalla holds a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Manitoba and an MBA from Duke University.
Chief Operating Officer, North America
Troy Rice was named Chief Operating Officer of North America for Office Depot, Inc. in August 2016. In this role, Rice is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the company’s retail, contract, eCommerce and marketing operations to better serve customers in today’s omni-channel marketplace. Previously, Rice served as Executive Vice President of Retail for Office Depot where he successfully led the integration of the Office Depot and OfficeMax store operations, drove same store sales improvements and significantly grew operating profit. Over the course of his 26 years of retail experience, Rice has led omni-channel initiatives in partnership with eCommerce, improved customer satisfaction scores, grown customer loyalty programs, implemented world class systems and processes and driven sales. Before joining Office Depot in 2014, Rice served as Executive Vice President – Stores and Services at Toys”R”Us during which he was responsible for all aspects of store operations for Toys”R”Us, Babies”R”Us, FAO Schwarz and seasonal stores. Prior to Toys”R”Us, Rice spent 16 years in positions of increasing responsibility at Home Depot, culminating in the role of Division President, Northern Division, in which he held full operational responsibility for Home Depot’s largest division. Rice earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and Finance from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA.
